ProjectInterior design for student accommodation
The BriefWe worked alongside our lovely client to create the brief for this project. Taking a 1850's building in the heart of Nottingham with beautiful large picture windows, we would create high-end student accommodation. The finished apartments needed to be robust and still look great years down the road.
The ThinkingThe challenge was to create 9 individual apartments which would be pitched at the highest end of the student market price wise. We took a fresh approach to student apartments by creating an individual feel for each space. With an undertsanding of the student lifestyle we knew the apartments needed to be aspirational, welcoming and comfortable for relaxation, but functional and practical for focussed studies. Individuality is present in each of the apartments, for example one of the rooms features a large mirror hand wallpapered with a variety of vintage novels. Following the bookish theme, we also used bespoke wallpaper that acts as a headboard behind the bed. The wallpaper is so large in scale the student is sure to feel like a Borrower! Along with style as function, each apartment has a massive pinboard on the walls - they look fantastic but are really useful for student essentials. Each apartment has it's own kitchen which work really well, the layouts and cabinet structure provide storage as well as looking great. The individual bath and shower rooms have feature graphic walls too. One of the bathrooms features monty pyton-esque fingers which point towards the toilet and the shower outlet.
The ResultWonderful results all round. After the interior design was completed and photos were featured online, the apartments filled within just 2 weeks! We're now in the second year for iD Apartments, and many of the students have chosen to stay on, which shows how much they love their space. Those that did graduate left apartments that were snapped up immediately.
After working with Newenglish on a previous project they had my complete confidence with iD Apartments. There were so many parts to this project – the market research, the branding, the website, the interiors and working with the building team – all were managed seamlessly, which was such a huge support to me. The interior was the biggest part of the project and it's safe to say they absolutely nailed it. I have 9 beautifully designed luxury student apartments that look modern, stylish and will be hard wearing over time. Every little detail was thought through, and this shows throughout the building. All the apartments get booked quickly every time they come available and I have little doubt that the interior design is a big factor. I look forward to working with Newenglish on my next project.Director, iD Apartments
